All-on-4 Dental Implants

Losing most or all of your teeth can make it difficult to eat, speak, and smile with confidence. Implant-supported dentures can help.

Our periodontist often recommends the All-on-4® implant technique, a full-arch restoration that relies on just four implant posts.

Find out why Dr. Justin M. Schlaikjer's patients at our St. Louis, MO, office choose All-on-4 treatment...

3 Advantages of All-on-4 vs. Other Dental Implant Techniques

Minimal Preparation

Many patients with bone loss have been told that they are not good candidates for dental implants. But because All-on-4 requires less bone tissue, many people can receive implants without first undergoing bone grafting. This reduces the overall treatment timeline.

Just Four Implants

Traditional implant-supported dentures need to be supported by six to eight dental implants. All-on-4 can benefit patients who have bone loss. The treatment requires just four implants to support a full arch of teeth. During surgery, Dr. Schlaikjer will place the two posterior implants at a 45-degree angle to maximize the stability of your available jaw structure.

Faster Results

With All-on-4 treatment, you can leave our St. Louis office with a fully functional, natural-looking temporary denture on the same day as your implant procedure. This means you don't have to struggle with a poorly fitting temporary restoration or go without teeth.

What Exactly Is All-on-4?

As the name suggests, All-on-4 is simply a way to place a full denture on just four implants. Despite its simple concept, the technique offers innumerable benefits.

You may already be aware that a single dental implant can support a crown to replace a missing tooth, but you can also support a full arch of teeth on just four implants.

The treatment concept for All-on-4 was developed by Nobel Biocare™, a globally recognized leader in dentistry. It was first used in 1998 and has since earned high patient satisfaction rates, successfully treating hundreds of thousands of patients with missing teeth.

An All-on-4 will allow you to smile with confidence and eat all of your favorite foods again. It can take years off your appearance and won't slip out of place or irritate your gums like a traditional denture.

All-on-4 Is a Safe and Lasting Solution

To Qualify for All-on-4 YOU SHOULD:

healthcare

Be in Good General Health

To ensure the safety and success of your dental implant procedure, you will need to be in good overall health. Dr. Schlaikjer will conduct a full medical history evaluation prior to scheduling your surgery.

Commit to Regular Dental Care

Dental implants and dentures are not prone to decay like natural enamel, but you will still need to practice good oral hygiene and attend regular dental check-ups.

All-on-4 Can Make a Big Difference

Many patients are worried that this state-of-the-art dental treatment will be more expensive or less reliable than traditional implant techniques.

However, studies have found that All-on-4 is faster and more comfortable than other methods. At the same time, it boasts incredibly high success rates and many patients are able to enjoy their implant-supported restorations for up to 10 years or more. Plus, with proper care, implants can last for a lifetime.

Dental implants are unique to dentistry because, over time, they become part of your anatomy. Through a process called osseointegration, your titanium implants will fuse with your jawbone, making them a solid foundation for your denture.

Dr Schlaikjer is very skilled and it is apparent when you are in his care. Always felt comfortable. Gum graft went super well and exceeded expectations. This sort of stuff is never fun, but if I had to get periodontal work again, I know where I would go.

Receiving All-on-4 UNDERGOING THE IMPLANT PLACEMENT SURGERY

When undergoing the All-on-4 procedure, you can expect these steps:

Consultation

During an initial consultation at our St. Louis office, Dr. Schlaikjer will take x-rays and 3D images of your teeth and jaw to confirm your candidacy and create a treatment plan. Before your dental implant placement, you may have to schedule procedures in preparation for your All-on-4 placement. This may include tooth extraction or gum disease treatment.

Impressions

Your dentist may also take impressions of your teeth and dental arch well before the procedure. This helps ensure that your provisional denture is ready on the day of the oral surgery.

Anesthesia

During the implant surgery, Dr. Schlaikjer will administer local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Sedation is also available for patients who are anxious about undergoing this dental procedure.

Incisions

Dr. Schlaikjer will then make incisions on your gum tissue at the site where the dental implants will be placed.

Implant Placement

Dr. Schlaikjer will place two implants at the front of the dental arch, positioning them in a traditional, vertical fashion. The two other implants are placed at a 45-degree angle further back along the dental arch. This helps avoids all anatomical structures and makes the most of your available bone tissue.

Temporary Denture

Dr. Schlaikjer will then attach the temporary denture to the four dental implants. You can wear this temporary dental prothesis until you've healed and your permanent denture is ready.

Osseointegration

After three to six months of healing and osseointegration, you can return to our St. Louis office for your completed dental prosthesis. Dr. Schlaikjer will attach your permanent denture that's made to look like they are natural teeth.

Dental Exams

Schedule regular dental exams with your dentist so they can check your implants and ensure that your gums are healthy.

The Dangers of Tooth Loss

Not only does a missing tooth make us feel self-conscious and make it difficult to eat, but tooth loss can also lead to serious oral health problems.

Jawbone atrophy occurs at the site of a missing tooth because you don't have tooth roots to stimulate your jawbone. This bone loss can become severe. In fact, it can even lead to changes in your facial structure, leaving you with an older-looking appearance, especially around the lips and cheeks.

How Can I Pay for All-on-4?

Our office accepts multiple forms of dental insurance that may contribute in part to the cost of All-on-4 dental implants. However, our St. Louis, MO, office also offers financing options to make this life-changing procedure more affordable. We work with CareCredit® and LendingClub® to allow our patients to pay in monthly installments. One of our staff members will even assist you with any necessary paperwork.

When cared for properly, implants can last a lifetime, making them a worthwhile investment.

I was referred by my dentist who gave Dr S a rave review. After a thorough examination it was determined that my bone had to be built up to, accommodate an implant. It was a difficult task but Dr S handled it with expertise, compassion and an explanation of each and every procedure before he began. After major oral surgery he sent me home with his cell phone number to call if I was in pain. I have the utmost confidence in dr S and encourage anyone needing a Periodontist to go to him.
